UK conflict misses the agency of other powers in the lead up to it, particularly Russia and France. Maybe take a look at something like Christopher Clark's "The Sleepwalkers" to get a wider perspective on the war. Looking at other powers also gets into how messy the conflict actually was and how much less determined how the conflict actually came about.
