I'll just talk about the AI talent race in particular, most of the AI researchers recently hired by Meta are Chinese, with Chinese bachelor's (graduate degrees not yet) from top Chinese universities. We are defunding our education and excluding even highly intellectual immigrants. China might not have the same immigration history as we have and a huge language and political barrier to even get there, that being said they are investing in their own population in a way we are not. While China has diversified their investments the US is singularly focused on become more militarized and isolated. We still have the advantage of our financial and capital systems but as the US dollar hegemony comes into question. It leaves a lot to be wondered about the future of our economy and politics.
Given the OBBB was passed today, we're cooked. We're ceding the technologies of the future to China and ruining our fiscal situation so our ability to do things in the future is even more constrained. We're cooked for a generation.

Now on what seems an inexorable escalation path, currently taking a breath for air. And entirely on behalf of Israel too, as Iran and US clearly have no organic appetite for such a conflict, while Israel tries and repeatedly succeeds to suck the US into it. Trump pushed over the top in '24 election just for this scenario, in case that's not clear - i.e., by Iran hawk political sponsor group, incl Israeli center-right and far right, themselves overtaken by psycopathic war fever, now in its 2nd year. Elephant in room, larger significance to global relations than technological trends. When the dust settles and some kind of Nuremberg trials take place for the Gaza - and to be clear, we're on track for a 7 figure body count by year end - it will be recognized world wide that the US was the fundamental great-power enabler of this.
this is a good article on US-China tension; however, I feel we’ve completely forgotten abt the rest of the world when it comes to the AI race - there’ve been lots of advancements & interesting issues outside of the US & China unmentioned actually.
