Phil Schneider in Hamlet My best cultural experience of the year was watching my little brother star in a full production of Hamlet in his final semester at Yale. He was very, very good. Even more impressive to me was his performance in Hand to God, where he was possessed by a southern Christian ministry puppet.
Thanks for the TV show recommendations. I’ve started watching 狂飙 and have been enjoying it so far. I recall seeing 扫黑除恶 on banners all over the place where I was staying in late 2018/early 2019. Interesting to see how this show approaches the topic of that campaign and how the dynamics play out between characters.
There have been some great nature/agriculture metaphors in the show too. Favorites so far have been 拔出萝卜带出泥 (to bring up dirt when harvesting a radish) and 雨后春笋 (to spring up like bamboo shoots after it rains).
'The Bear' S1 was great, but I thought S2 was even better! Episode 7, 'Forks' may be my fave episode of the whole show.
I'll take the other side on 'The Pacific'. I was disappointed by it. Maybe it's because I adored the book 'With the Old Breed' by E.B. Sledge on which a lot was based, but I would've made many different choices on what was shown, and I think Pacific is much weaker generally than Band of Brothers.
That said, I haven't seen it since it came out, so maybe someday I need to give it another chance.
